Soho House Mumbai
INDIAN SUMMER
After Amsterdam and Milan, Soho House opens its first Asian outpost this month – in Mumbai, reports Ali Catterall
There have been 22 Soho Houses since the original plonked itself down at the corner of London’s Greek Street and Old Compton Street in 1995, and they’re as far afield as New York to Istanbul. But Soho House Mumbai is its first Asian foray, and it’s a perfect marriage of buzzing Bollywood and the brand’s relaxed-but-smart bohemian reputation. The 10-storey building overlooks Juhu beach and will have a Cecconi’s restaurant as well as a rooftop bar and pool with views of the city and the Arabian sea .
There’s a laid-back, welcoming atmosphere to the 10-storey, 38-bedroom building, and the decor (devised by Soho House founder Nick Jones in partnership with director of Soho House Design, Linda Boronkay) is extremely easy on the eye. Indian notes abound, from the block-printed fabrics from Rajasthan to the sari lampshades and Jaipur green marble bar tops. A gym, steam room, library, screening room top off another elegant entry in Soho House’s bid for friendly, super cool world-domination.
