Want to escape (albeit virtually) to a haven of tranquility? Lux*’s new opening is the stuff that dreams are made of. Go on, take a trip . . .

We may not be able to travel IRL but we can enjoy indulging in a bit of wondering and dreaming about where we’ll go when we’re set free; LUX* Chongzuo, Guangxi Resort & Villas, has catapaulted to the top of our ever increasing bucket list.  The new resort, which opened this week, marks the renowned company’s debut into ultra-luxe in China. Located in Daxin county in the south of the country, it boasts 56 glorious suites and villas featuring private Mingshi river-facing terraces and plunge pools that open up to the vast natural surroundings.

Suites are surrounded by lush tropical forests with spectacular views of the Karst mountain formations and the river. Mood lighting installed in every room and in public areas allows guests to experience a starry, starry night sky once the sun sets. And the resort’s two restaurants and three bars, led by award winning Executive Chef George Qu, offer riverside all-day dining and a rooftop bar.

The architecture and interiors, brought to life by Guangzhou-based Teamer International, are designed to sit effortlessly within these stunning natural surroundings. It blends harmoniously into the unspoiled landscape with the use of a natural colour palette, stone and wood materials for the furnishings, and accents of copper.

There’s also ample opportunity to immerse yourselves in nature: drift down the picturesque Mingshi River on a bamboo raft (with afternoon tea onboard), explore locally on foot or guided bicycle tour or gasp at the powerful beauty of the world-famous Detian Waterfall – Asia’s largest transnational waterfall, which is only 30 minutes away. And if you fancy a day trip, head out to the Nonggang Nature Reserve, home to the critically endangered white-headed langurs.

“The extraordinary location coupled with world-class facilities will provide guests with an exclusive sanctuary to experience true luxury – time to enjoy the art of slow travel and to connect meaningfully with the local community, culture, food and music,” said Paul Jones, chief executive of The Lux Collective.

The perfect place for frazzled pandemic survivors seeking beauty, tranquillity and a chance to make sense of the past year. We’re there already - dreams can come true.
